Description
Suzanne Joubert was born in Montreal but lived afar for a long period before coming back in 2001. Meanwhile she obtained a B.A. in visual arts (1973) with the Gold Medal of Excellence of Ottawa University, and an M.A. in the visual arts (1989) from UQAM in Montreal; this time with two FCAR excellence scholarships. She painted irregularly in between, spending energy in various artistic organizations, professional juries, art critique and university teaching.
Suzanne Joubert considers 1988 as the year of her serious debut in painting, with her master degree solo exhibition at Ufundi Gallery in Ottawa and the cover-page of Vie des Arts magazine. Since then her time is being devoted to studio work. There have been as a consequence over twenty more solos, a few grants, a great many group shows in Canada and some abroad. Her work is represented in numerous important corporate and public collections. In year 2000 she published, with Fidès Editor, an essay on art and painting entitled Éloge de l’inactualité, and more recently produced in 2015 a second book entitled CRÉER, ce qu’en disent les artistes, with the collaboration of 26 other artists. She was elected a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Art in 2003.
